Cemi’i Can Deliorman (*1984) is an acclaimed young conductor from Turkey and is now one of the most sought-after conductors of the younger generation. He currently holds the position of music director end principal conductor of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO). He was appointed at the end of the 2019/2020 season, carrying on a great tradition; the orchestra, which was founded in 1826, claims to be one of the world's oldest orchestras. Recently, he began his tenure as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Gedik Philharmonic Orchestra in İstanbul. In creative leadership with the orchestra, he develops unique programs with a repertoire stretching from late baroque to contemporary music, which have thus thrilled audiences of all tastes.
Deliorman has conducted numerous concerts in recent years, including performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s 4th Symphony and Kindertotenlieder, Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen, Beethoven’s 9th, the Sibelius Violin Concerto, Rachmaninov’s "Isle of death,” staged productions of Carmina Burana at the State Opera, and several world premieres of music composed by Turkish composers, fueled by his passion for new music.
Cemi’i Can Deliorman is the artistic director of the International New Music Festival in Ankara. Its first edition, taking place in May 2020, will include performances of Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Recherche, Quatuor Makrokosmos, Yurodny Ensemble, Hezarfen Ensemble, Beat Furrer, Refik Anadol and many others.
Highlights of 2019/2020 include three monumental season openings: a gala concert with CRR Symphony Orchestra, Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Scherezade" with the Gedik Philharmonic Orchestra, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Antalya State Opera. A strong commitment to contemporary music with Gedik Philharmonic Orchestra continues, including a recent commission of a new work by composer Onur Türkmen. In April 2020, he will also be making his UK debut with Hezarfen Ensemble at the Bristol Music Festival. Further engagements in the 2019-20 season include Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, the Honneger Cello concerto with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Tchaikovsky’s 1st Piano concerto with renowned Russian pianist Andrei Pisarev, the Liszt Piano Concerto with Can Çakmur, and Beethoven’s 4th, 6th and 9th symphonies in celebration of the composer’s 250th birth year.
Initially trained as a violinist, Deliorman graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria. In 2010, he received his Master’s degree in orchestral conducting with Martin Sieghart and studied choral conducting with Johannes Prinz.
Graz KUG Orkestrası, Sicilya Senfoni Orkestrası, Lizbon Müzik Üniversitesi Orkestrası, Almati Operası gibi uluslararası topluluklarla da konuk şef olarak çalışmış, Europa Cantat Müzik Festivali, Acco Müzik Festivali gibi önemli organizasyonlara konuk şef olarak davet edilmiştir. Gustav Mahler’in 2. senfonisi üzerine yazdığı yüksek lisans tezi, 2013 Temmuz ayında Almanya’da AkademikerVerlag tarafından yayınlanmıştır.
Cemi’i Can Deliorman 2020 – 2021 konser sezonu itibariyle Cumhurbaşkanlığı Senfoni Orkestrası Müzik Direktörlüğü görevine getirilmiş, halen bu görevi sürdürmektedir.
